Big Takeaways From WWE RAW (1/30/2023) and SmackDown (2/3/2023)

The fallout of the Royal Rumble is done and what a week its been, we’ve seen The Bloodline implode, Cody Rhodes return to RAW and the elimination chamber qualifiers have begun for both the men and the women.

Sami Zayn get his match at Elimination Chamber

Well it happened, Sami Zayn is going to get his match against Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber which is happening in his hometown of Montreal. Interestingly, there was no Jey Uso on either show, and Roman Reigns came out at the end of Smackdown to address what happened at the Royal Rumble. Sami came out and jumped Roman from behind and told him he’s going after the Roman’s world titles. Once backup arrived in the form of Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Usowho were unable to get in contact with Jey, they came to take down Sami Zayn, and this is where Roman gave Sami the match at Elimination Chamber.

This match is going to be great, as is the angle I’m sure. The only part is that feels maybe a bit off is how quickly Sami came back from the attack as leaving him off until next week may have had a bigger impact, even though he’s still super over anyway. Either way this was done very well as we approach what looks to be the end of this Bloodline story come Wrestlemania 39.

Rhea Ripley makes her Wrestlemania decision

This past week on RAW, Rhea Ripley made her decision on who she wants to face at Wrestlemania, which was revealed to be Charlotte and the Smackdown Women’s Championship. She talked about her loss at Wrestlemania 36 and how she wants revenge for that basically. While this match is fine, I still think Bianca would have been a better choice, but it is what it is now. The one thing here, however this build pans out, Rhea needs to win the title at Mania, it needs to happen.

Elimination Chamber matches almost set

On RAW, it was announced there would be chamber qualifying matches to compete for Austin Theory’s United States title. Seth Rollins beat Chad Gable to qualify, Bronson Reed got in as did Johnny Gargano. The final two spots will be decided this week as Angelo Dawkins goes against Damian Priest and Montez Ford faces Elias. Now I think it’s fairly clear that it will be Priest and Ford advancing, which is interesting, because does this start a possible Street Profits break up? It may not be, but just putting it out there.

The women also have their chamber to determine the number one contender for Bianca Belair’s Raw Women’s Championship. It was announced that the final four from the rumble would automatically qualify with two fatal four way matches to determine the final two spots. So this means that Asuka, Liv Morgan, Piper Niven and Nikki Cross. Then on Smackdown Natalya won entry by winning that fatal four way.

Cody makes a successful return on RAW

Obviously after winning the Royal Rumble match Cody Rhodes was going to get to go out and speak for the first time in many months, and it was a good promo, with a lot of passion. But it seems the intermittent feud going into Elimination Chamber will be Judgement Day, and will probably be teaming with Edge and Beth Pheonix as they showed up on RAW as well, Edge basically giving an assist to Cody winning the match he had against Finn Balor. Beth also speared Rhea again, so it is possible we get a Rhea vs Beth match at the PPV, then just an ordinary tag match with Edge and Cody teaming together. But it is hard to say because Edge didn’t say anything on the show at all, he just showed up, speared and left basically.

New Tag Team Championship Number one contenders

标签的团队比赛已经接近尾声,它is Strowman and Ricochet that will face The Usos next week for the tag titles and they beat Imperium in a pretty good match that took up almost the first half hour of Smackdown. As soon as they were announced as the replacement team, it was a bit of a forgone conclusion about who would win but there was still at least a small amount of uncertainty. Obviously The Usos will retain next week but the more interesting story will be the relationship between Jimmy and Jey, especially after the events of the rumble and Jey not showing up all week, that will most likely be the most interesting aspect to the match.
